6-Week Course: Wheel Throwing
Join us for a 6-week wheel throwing experience designed to build your skills in wheel throwing, trimming and attaching.
This term is perfect for beginners through to returning students, with guided weekly projects that progressively develop your confidence, technique, and creativity in a supportive studio environment.
Whether you’re completely new to clay or looking to expand your practice, this course will take you through the full ceramic process.

What will you do each week in the 6 - week course?
Our 6 - week wheel throwing course is designed for students to build a foundation of skills around all things clay and the potters wheel. Develop skills each week and be on your way to becoming a confident thrower.
Week 1: Introduction to Clay, Studio & Wheel
Introduction to clay, tools, and studio processes
Jumping straight in to learn all the basics of the potters wheel including centering and starting to pull even walls
No pieces from this week will be kept
Week 2: Pulling Walls & Cylinder Practice
Now you’re confident in your centering, it’s time to practice pulling up those walls.
Make 1 - 2 cylindrical shapes
Learn to wire your piece off the wheel and keep it to practice trimming next week.
Make test tiles on the wheel to test different glaze combinations
Week 3: Trimming & Handles
Its time to finish off your pots by trimming the base & adding handles
Learn about different foot styles
Explore attaching handles and carving designs into your piece
Week 4: Bowls & Pots
Jump back on the wheel and learn how to manipulate your cylinder into something a bit more complex
Use your hands and wooden tools to create different styles or shapes on your bowl or pot
Glaze your test tiles
Week 5: Narrow Neck
Learn to be more intentional with your throwing by creating a narrow necked bottle or vase
Trim your bowls from the week before
Week 6: Glaze & Trim
Trim your bottle/ vase from last week and choose there glaze colour
Using your test tiles for reference, finish off your masterpieces by gazing each piece
