    PYOP -
Each ticket (1 per person), gets you access to a large variety of glazes, brushes, and supplies to create your one of a kind creative project.

Upon arriving to the studio, you will then be able to pick out the pottery piece/s you would like to create. These prices range from $5-$80.

    Wheel Throwing -

  • We are patiently waiting for our BYO license to be approved so we currently cannot allow alcoholic beverages at this time.

However, you are welcome to bring your own snacks and non alcoholic drinks along to your session.

  • While we highly recommend booking in for your session, it is not essential. Walk ins are welcome during our opening times but spots are subject to availability.

  • Whatever makes you feel the most comfortable.

Pottery glazes are wonderful as they wash out of clothes unlike other paints.

If you’re booking in for a wheel throwing session, we ask that you wear closed toe shoes for extra safety! We recommend wearing clothing that allows you to have your legs on either side of the pottery wheel.

We will have aprons available for those who chose to have a little extra protection.

  • The Pottage is located right in the Ballarat CBD. Our address is 67-69 Bridge Mall.

There is plenty of parking available in and around the mall.

  • Access to the sessions is via The Bridge Mall which allows guests to be dropped right at our door if need be.

On site we have three toilets. One of our toilets is a disability accessible bathroom.

Throughout our space, we have no steps, just a few ramps or slight inclines. As we learn about this we will endeavour to adapt and make changes to suit a variety of different needs in the space.

As we are a new space, we too are learning about the possible sensory needs within the space. If you would like to chat further about sensory or accessibility, please don’t hesitate to reach out at hello@thepottage.com.au . We would love to hear from you to make sure we are creating a safe and accommodating space for everyone.

  • Of course you can!

If you would like to come along with someone else, each person must purchase a ticket. You can book multiple spots at one time. As long as they have a ticket, they are welcome. There is limited tickets per session.

We recommend pre booking a ticket to guarantee a spot at your preferred time.

  • PYOP -
1-3 weeks. After you create your masterpiece you will sign and date your work before handing it back to one of our helpful Pottage team members. This is when you can either request postage or pickup from The Pottage. We will then glaze and fire your work.

    Wheel Throwing -
2 - 4 weeks. We need to allow additional time for wheel throwing for pieces to dry & be fired.

When your piece/s are ready for collection you will have 4 weeks to collect your piece/s.

  • Absolutely! When you finish your session, you will drop your pottery item off to one of our lovely Pottage team members. At this time, you will be able to request postage as an additional fee.

  • We have all heard the stories about big kiln whoopsies!

All the pieces available during the paint your own pottery sessions have been bisque fired already. This means they have already gone through their first firing, making it almost 100% unlikely that they will explode. Sometimes minor cosmetic issues can still occur because clay making can be temperamental. Sometimes pieces may have slight glaze inconsistencies, cracks and kiln shelf marks on the bases. This is all a completely normal part of the process.

For studio hire, we take no responsibility for items created during studio hire sessions as this is the responsibility of the creator. Further details will be provided during your induction.

For wheel throwing beginners will find that their pieces are more susceptible to breaking. We will take all steps possible to ensure a piece won’t break but there are no guarantees. Cracks, warpage and changing shapes are all part of the learning process.

We endeavour to avoid this happening but sometimes the kiln fairies have other plans.

We will let you know if something happens to your piece in the unlikely situation and either endeavour to resolve the situation with you or explain how things went wrong.

We will have a variety of example pieces and sample tests of all the colours so you can pick and choose and know what to expect with your finished work. Please take note of the differences in sizing as each item will shrink between 10-15% which is a standard shrinkage rate across all pottery firing.

However, sometimes, colours and items don’t always look the way we expect them too. This is part of the creative process and what makes it so fun.

We do not offer refunds to those who do not like their finished results.

  • You sure can! Cancel anytime. Memberships are subscription based services for a 12 month period. We can not refund the amount already paid on the membership.
If you are having any difficulties or have any questions regarding your membership, please send us an email hello@thepottage.com.au

  • We have an age limit due to the velocity and strength required to move the clay on the wheel head.
Although, it is rather easy it can be difficult for smaller arms to reach the wheel centre, move the clay and coordinate around the machine.
In addition to this, we also use some sharp tools.
All children under the age of 18 will need an accompanying adult and to check the safety acknowledgment when booking classes and hire in the studio.
